Finish site use, then do a rough draft of the larger plants that make up the structure of the outdoor walls. Remember to watch that the line is not flat. Use masses of plants with specimen plant for focal points. Use the Weston nursery reference book to start choosing plants. Use a numbered key and keep track.

Assignment to be done Monday and Tuesday

You will make a presentation like you did for narrowleafed evergreens, except you will do it for deciduous shrubs. Use the Weston nursery books to find 12 shrubs that have the following characteristics: Deciduous Shrub presentation Deciduous shrubs have no leaves in the winter but may have other interesting characteristics. You are going to produce a keynote presentation using your iPad. It will have 12 deciduous shrubs that must exhibit certain characteristics which are given in the table below. Use the Weston Nursery website and the Weston Nursery Horticulture reference book to come up with 12 deciduous shrubs that have all the characteristics listed below. On average, plants will have to exhibit at least two characteristics. Check off the characteristics as you go until they are all used up. Mature Height 10-12 ft; Variegated leaves; Blue fruit; Red bark; Blooms in July; Mature Height 8-10 ft; Purple leaves; weeping; Yellow bark; Blooms in August; Mature Height 6-8 ft; Silver leaves; Red fruit; Blooms in April; Blooms in September; Mature Height 2-4 ft; upright; Makes a good hedge; Blooms in May; Blooms in October; Make sure each slide has: a picture with the correct image of that plant… 10 pts; a description that contains at least two of the characteristics in the box… 80 pts; A name that includes the scientific name of the plant (Genus , species and ‘variety’) , or common name and ‘variety’ 10 pts
